Writing Round Up
December 2025
Every six months or so I like to gather in one place a bunch of helpful links of things I have been doing and writing in different spaces both on the internet and for various projects ‘in real life.’ As well as helping me take stock of what I have been working on, it’s a great way for my readers to catch up on anything they might have missed in the busyness of life! So today’s post is less new ideas and reflections and more a summary of what I’ve been doing and writing. I did a similar thing in July and in December last year if you want to go back even further into what I have been doing!
Growing Faith
I’ve had lots of opportunities to write for Growing Faith this year – the online parenting magazine run by Youthworks Media. It’s a great place of different people sharing different thoughts and reflections on the complex topic of parenting as Christians, and I’ve loved getting to contribute!
Early in the year, I wrote about how church communities can and should step up when cost of living starts hitting people hard, and ways we can be good neighbours to each other in big and small ways. For Mother’s Day, I got to share my reflections as the parent of an only child. I updated some thoughts I have previously written about here on my substack on the role of memorisation in faith and what saying the Lord’s Prayer with my toddler each night has been teaching me. Finally, I recently wrote about the Fruit of the Spirit, and how they have been shaping my parenting goals.
Mamamia
For Mamamia, I wrote about the difference between ‘ask and guess’ culture families and what I have learnt through my experiences in both. I also wrote about kids’ tv shows, why low stimulation shows are good for our kids’ brains, and why I hate Peppa Pig.
150 Years of Stories at St Stephen’s Newtown
I was part of the team that put together this book documenting the history of a significant inner city Sydney church. Researching, referencing and editing this work took up a fair few of my writing work hours over the last eighteen months, and I am so delighted it is out in the world now. If you are in Sydney, Australia, the best way to purchase the book is through the church directly, or through Booktopia. If you are international, unfortunately Amazon is your best bet for purchasing euther a physical copy or the ebook. If you do buy and read the book, would you leave us a review on Goodreads? This really helps get our book seen by more people who may enjoy it.
PhD Updates
Each month, I write a short newsletter updating our supporters about how my husband’s PhD work is going and how we are going in Sydney. It’s been a great way to stay in touch with friends across the country and the world, and if you are interested in praying for us, you can sign up to get updates here.
As well as this ‘public facing’ writing work, I have also been doing more behind the scenes work, editing and proofreading manuscripts for some Christian organisations, and I am hoping to expand this work in 2026. If you have a project that needs professional editing, proofreading, copywriting or content production, please get in touch. And of course, I will continue to write and reflect here on Searching For Grace.
As well as writing the Searching for Grace substack, Beccy is a copywriter and editor at Rebecca Sharley Writes, and the author of God’s Family Now: A New Look at Kids’ Ministry.
