Beccy, this is so beautifully written and so insightful. Can I say I agree with all your conclusions but also loved the episode as it was? From a parent's perspective, I think you're spot on: from a kid's perspective, I think the episode did what Calypso talked about. It gave us a happy ending because life has enough sad ones. To a child, the story arc of getting to stay in the beloved house is a triumphant one, and I think it's also a testament to Bandit and Chilli's strength as a couple that they're willing to explore the unknown *and* let go of the "better life" (privileged though that choice may be) because their happiness lies in each other. I loved the episode but I loved this essay too-- perhaps even more. You have a gift.
